Rules of the Festival

A. Basic Provisions

  1. The International Vocal Competition, taking place at Music Festival „Ad Honorem Mozart“ (hereinafter “the competition”) is an international interpretative competition for young vocalists, and will be organized in Prague for the second time.
  2. The competition follows the tradition of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s strong relationship to Prague.
  3. The competition is declared by Original Music Theatre Prague (hereafter only „OHDP”).
  4. The competition is organized by Original Music Theatre Prague (hereafter only „OHDP”).
  5. The executive body of the competition is the secretariat:

  6. 6. The competition has been declared for two categories: 1st category - singers up to 19 years of age; 2nd category - singers up to 35 years of age. Contestants must not exceed the set age limit in the date the competition is held.

B. Jury

  1. The jury shall be appointed by the director of the festival Renée Nachtigallová.
  2. The jury decisions are final. Any meetings and sessions of the jury are closed and confidential.
  3. The jury or the competition organizers aren’t allowed inform the participants about the reasons of the jury decisions.
  4. Should there be any dispute regarding the interpretation of these rules of the competition, this will be resolved by the director of the competition.

C. Rules of the Competition

  1. Contests of the competition are open to all young Czech and international singers.
  2. The competition is open to anyone, who is able to perform prescribed repertoire and did not exceed the age limit.
  3. Prescribed repertoire: 1st category - 5 compositions by W. A. Mozart - 2 songs and 3 arias, or 3 songs and 2 arias (up to the competitor); 2nd category - 3 songs and 4 arias by W. A. Mozart (arias can be operatic, oratorio-aria or concert-aria).
  4. Interpretation in original language version is obligatory.
  5. The transpositions are acceptable only in printed versions.
  6. Singing by heart isn’t obligatory, but it can affect the jury’s classification.
  7. The 1st round of the competition - 1st and 2nd category: the sequence of the compositions shall be decided by the contestant. Everybody will sing one song and one aria, of their choice. Jury stipulates the possibility to ask one more composition, if necessary.
  8. The 2nd round of the competition - 1st category: competitor will sing two compositions, chosen by the jury from his/her entered repertoire; 2nd category: competitor will sing two or three compositions, chosen by the jury from his/her entered repertoire.
  9. The 3rd round of the competition - 1st and 2nd category: Number and selection of compositions will be chosen by the jury.
  10. Contestants are required to prove their identity and age before the competition starts.
  11. The order of contestants and their performances shall be determined by lot. Those who proceed to the second round will perform in reverse order.
  12. After each of the rounds is finished, the jury will evaluate the performances of the contestants by giving points from 1 - 25. The highest and the lowest evaluation are deleted. The average of the rest added points makes the decisions on ranking and advancement.
  13. Normally, half the participants from previous round of each contest shall proceed to the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
  14. Total sum of scores from 1st and 2nd rounds will decide the succession to 3rd round.
  15. The 3rd round will be classified separately. Following the scores of the 3rd round, the jury shall make a decision on the final positions, awards and diplomas. The jury reserves the right to divide or to combine prizes, except for the 1st prizes. The jury shall not be obliged to award a place or a prize if the performance was not of the desired quality.
  16. The 3rd round with orchestra (Suk´s Chamber Orchestra) - final results will be declared at The Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) at August 24th, 2008 at 2 p.m.
  17. The 3rd round with orchestra (Suk´s Chamber Orchestra) - final results will be declared at The Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) after the finaly.
  18. Necessary requirements for entrance into the competition are the completed registration form and acquitted registration fee.

D. Awards and Prizes of the International Competition „Ad Honorem Mozart“

1st CATEGORY

  • 1st prize - 15.000,- CZK and other gifts
  • 2nd prize - 7.000,- CZK and other gifts
  • 3rd prize - 3.000,- CZK and other gifts
  • Public´s prize
  • Jurnalists´s prize

2nd CATEGORY

  • 1st prize - 30.000,- CZK and other gifts
  • 2nd prize - 10.000,- CZK and other gifts
  • 3rd prize - 5.000,- CZK and other gifts
  • Public´s prize
  • Jurnalists´s prize

E. Instructions and the Program of the Competition

  1. The 6th volume of the International Vocal Competition, taking place at Music Festival „Ad Honorem Mozart“ runs from 18th till 21th of August, 2011 in Prague.
  2. Application form has to be posted to the address of the secretariat by July 31st, 2011. Attached to the application form should be list of the pieces selected for performance in accordance with the competition conditions. By signing the application form contestants automatically agree with the conditions of the competition.
  3. Organizer will provide piano accompaniment for all participants. If a contestant prefers his/her own piano accompaniment, it is fine, but the expense is on him/her.
  4. Contestants are obliged to appear for registration at Deyl Conservatoire, Maltezske namesti 14, Praha 1, on August 18th, 2011 between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  5. All of the contestants are obliged to participate in the lottery on August 18th, 2011 at 5 p.m.
  6. Participation on the competition will be confirmed only to those applicants, who will pay the application fee. For the 1st category it is 80 EUR and for 2nd category it is 100 EUR. The fee must be paid at the latest on July 31th, 2011. Please write down the full name of the organizer (“Original Music Theatre Prague”) to the beneficiary address on your payment order. In case of payment by electronic mail please enter payer name. Should any candidate be unable to participate, his/her advance payment will be forfeited. In extreme cases it is possible to pay the fee at registration at Deyl Conservatoire.   7. Program of the competition: August 18th 2011 - 3 - 5 p.m registration; 5 p.m.lottery for the 1st round of the competition; meeting with the pianist that will accompany you August 19th 2011 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 1st round of the competition the sequence of the compositions shall be decided by the contestant; everybody will sing one song and one aria, of their choice; jury stipulates the possibility to ask one more composition, if necessary; August 20th 2011 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 2nd round of the competition 1st category: competitor will sing two compositions, chosen by the jury from his/her entered repertoire; 2nd category: competitor will sing two or three compositions, chosen by the jury from his/her entered repertoire; August 21st 2011 - 5 p.m. ESTATES THEATRE Final of the Competitioon; Public final of the competition, featuring contestants accompanied by the Suk´s Chamber Orchestra and organist and harpsichordist Jaroslav Tůma, the announcement of results and concert of the winners and our guests.

F. Final Provisions

  1. All of the provision stands for the 6st year of the International Vocal Competition, taking place at Music Festival „Ad Honorem Mozart 2011“.
  2. The director of the competition and the jury can change one of the rules of the competition one day before it’s opening at the latest.
